LESSON OBSERVATION 3

 General reflection

I think that the teacher makes good use of didactic strategies for the topic of her class. She keeps the children engaged in various activities, which prevents the students from getting bored or doing different activities.  Also the teacher uses various didactic materials such as: flash cards, teddy bear, a rope, and worksheets, among other things. I think her class is good but simple.

Warmup used by the teacher

I think the warm up is good, I liked the exercise: "right and wrong" and stomping or clapping. Shouting is a good way to bring out the energy that children have stored up, I liked that exercise too. However, I could implement more things, have the children talk more, sing a song or have a closer interaction with the children as everything was very synchronized, it seems that they do this warm up as usual.

Lesson transition strategies

The transitions he makes allow the students to avoid monotony and boredom, changing places, positions and activities makes the class more dynamic. The children seem to have fun, and get to know these activities. One important thing is that the teacher is in control of the classroom at all times.   However, I think she can exploit more speaking, or reading skills, as they only repeat words.

Teaching aids

The teacher has a variety of material. The teaching aids the teacher use are flash cards, teddy bear, rope, some sheet exercises, and stickers. I liked the stickers, as they make the students happy, but I think I could give them not at the end of the lesson but maybe with another activity, but it is a good incentive for the students to work on doing exercises, as it can be boring for them.

What would you do differently?

I found that saying "shh" every time the students spoke was a bit rude. She could do exercises such as clapping, singing, etc. and then she would have the students' attention. I would also be a bit more free, I would let the students speak more in English (although I don't know what language level they have). Finally, I would use more audiovisual resources, as nowadays it is very important and very useful.

In general I think he uses good strategies, but he could be more substantial in his class, and not just do small activities (which to me seemed like warm up activities, except for the last one).
