Microteaching

Monnet School - Grade 1b

Microteaching: Week of March 11 - March 29

Throughout my microteaching I noticed that I became more confident in front of the group. Despite being a teacher, I was very nervous about teaching English, as it is not a language I speak as a native speaker. However, with the help of my mentor, who gave me tips on how to improve my microteaching (how to explain the material they were going to need, give feedback on the game, etc) I improved my way of interacting with the group as a teacher. I did six microteaching sessions that took me 15 minutes.   My microteaching were food bingo, food memory, match food, food domino. The objectives of these activities and the materials required are as follows:

 1. Food Bingo- I chose this game because it is an easy way to learn new vocabulary, as they see the picture and relate it to the word, they also hear how to pronounce it. The objective of this game is  to reinforce vocabulary related to food items and promote recognition and matching skills. For this game the material nedded were a bingo cards with pictures of different food items (fruits), small counters.

2. Food Memory- This is a game I like to use, as the children observe the name of the food and the food, they have to repeat them out loud when they discover the pictures, which also helps their pronunciation.  The objective of this game is to improve memory skills and vocabulary retention related to food items. For this game the material nedded were a pairs of cards with pictures of food items (e.g., apple, banana, pizza slice), large playing area.

3. Match Food- This activity allows the students to see the similarities between the products and the food, I think it is clearer for them to show the similarities between the products and the food.   The objective of this game is to encourage collaboration and creativity in creating a healthy food combination. For this game the material nedded were a large poster paper, markers, magazines or printed pictures of different food items.

4. Food Bingo-  I repeated the activity because they liked it very much, although I used a different material. The objective of this game is to reinforce vocabulary related to food items and promote recognition and matching skills. For this game the material nedded were a bingo cards with pictures of different food items  (vegetables), small counters.

5. Fruit Salad Making- The salad is a way for them to notice the variety of food in the salad. The objective of this game is to introduce young learners to different types of fruits, promote healthy eating habits, and develop basic food preparation skills. For this game the material nedded were a variety of fruits  items ( apples, bananas, grapes, strawberries, oranges), bowls.

6. Food domino- This is a good activity for students to use their memory skills. The domino is for them to recognise the name of the food and what it looks like. The objective of this game is to reinforce vocabulary related to food items, promote visual recognition, and enhance cognitive skills through a fun and interactive domino game. For this game the material nedded were domino tiles (customized with pictures of different food items)
