1. OBSERVATION- CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT

Monnet School - Grade 1b

Observation: Week of January 3 - January 10

Seating arrangement:

The students had English every day for three to two hours a week, depending on the day.  However, I noticed that they do a lot of extracurricular activities (such as going to museums, preparing food, festivals, etc.) so they don't always have that time for their English lessons.

The objectives of the lessons were to develop their imagination, so in the classes I observed they read a book and in the following classes they did activities related to history, to be able to decipher how a story is made, in the end they made their own story.

The school uses a project-based teaching method, whereby the children focus on one topic for a month and a half, and deal with various subtopics, and these months have been about imagination.
The activities that the children have done during the project are hung in the classroom. The teacher also makes use of materials such as pictures, posters and flashcards. These can be observed in the classroom.

The children have a good relationship with each other, so sometimes they do activities in pairs, sometimes in groups and sometimes individually.

They use Jolly grammar 1 pupil book and Jolly grammar 1 workbook

Reflection

I believe that a good classroom environment is fundamental for optimal academic and socio-emotional development of students. In my opinion, when students feel safe, valued and respected in their school environment, they tend to participate more. Similarly, good relationships in the classroom facilitate collaboration and teamwork. Moreover, pupils generate a sense of belonging. Likewise, through positive feedback and the values of respect and tolerance, pupils learn to value the opinions and experiences of others. On the other hand, the teacher, by reaffirming their opinions (or correcting them in the right way), students feel valued and acknowledged for their contributions, which helps them develop a positive self-image and feel more confident in expressing their opinion.
